PROS:

  • Students practice writing and reading skills
  • Students are given a voice to share their thoughts
  • Promotes reflection on knowledge
  • Students can peer edit each other's blogs
  • Parents can see what their children are working on in class
  • Students can blog with other students outside of class in different grades and in different locations

CONS:

  • Blogs will need to be monitored for appropriate content
  • Blogs may put students' work "out there on the Internet" for anyone to see
  • Could be a problematic if required to work on out of school for disadvantaged or for learning disabled
  • May be problematic for students who do not write well in the English language
  • May be an issue for students without readily available access to computers or internet access
